The story

I was fortunate to lead a small group in Iran in May 2022. One of the most interesting places we visited was the ancient city of Yazd. Its traditional districts, qanat system, ancient houses, bazaars, hammams, mosques, synagogues, Zoroastrian temples, and the historical garden of Dolat-abad have all been preserved, allowing visitors to explore the city's rich and vibrant past.

One of the oldest human settlements on Earth, the Old Town of Yazd is an incredible mix of residential palaces and homes surrounded by tall walls and winding alleys, creating an intricate labyrinth that one could easily get lost in without help. Taking the time to explore each street, discover hidden courtyards, and uncover beautiful wooden doors, photogenic spots and light shafts, make Yazd an incredible place to visit. Its ancient architecture and streets, filled with over 4,000 years of history, make it one of the most unique places in the world. From the moment you enter, you'll be taken back in time and immersed in a culture unlike any other. And with each step, you'll uncover a new hidden gem.

It is considered to be the most extensive, most systematic and most original historical area of Iran and the second largest residential adobe area of the world. The city is a testament to the wonders of human ingenuity, with its unique architecture and use of indigenous local materials, which enable it to consume the least energy possible for the construction of adobe buildings compatible with the hot and dry arid climate of the desert.

The traditional houses of Yazd, with their unique mud-brick architecture, blend in seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. The colourful walls, intricate carvings, and intricate designs give each house its own unique character and charm. The extent, integrity and preservation of the historical originality of Yazd is unparalleled and has become an important part of the city's culture and identity.

The historical part of Yazd is a place with unique sights and experiences to offer, such as the Fazeli Hotel Coffee Shop for sunset, Cafe Fooka with its milkshakes, and Art House Cafe with its panoramic view of the old town. Visitors can enjoy the surreal view with a cup of coffee and traditional Yazd food.
