About the place
It was getting dark and extremely cold (about -40°C). We drove through the old part of Yakutsk, where old, shabby wooden houses still stand. I returned later on my own. Even though it was already dusk, I managed to walk through the neighbourhood and photograph some of the houses. Most of them were in poor condition and on the verge of collapse. Between them, huge new apartment blocks were slowly but surely rising. The image of the apartment blocks between the old houses, against the background of the smoking chimneys of the heating plants, seemed eerie to me.

Darkness was settling in, and the night lights illuminated the foggy cityscape. Residents hurried by, creating a surreal atmosphere.
