Held at the beautiful Bulgarian Black Sea coast north of Varna, this 5 day workshop will have you shooting at fantastic off-the-beaten-path locations, all while exploring creative techniques and photographic vision. The Bulgarian Black Sea coast north of Varna is my ‘home patch’. It is magnificent in its diversity, from towering cliffs to rocky foreshores, harbors, beaches and spectacular rock formations.

My major aim is to guide the participants through technical, theoretical and aesthetic issues towards developing their own photographic style. SHORT DESCRIPTION

This photo walk is dedicated to The International Mummery Festival ‘Surva’’, the largest carnival event in Bulgaria and the Balkans.

The 24 th edition of the Festival will take place in Pernik (30 km far from Sofia, Bulgaria) in the end of January. The Municipality of Pernik has been holding the festival ever since 1966. In 1985 the festival gained international-event status. In June, 2009 Pernik was proclaimed as the European capital of Surva`s and Mumers. Around 5 000 people or about 95 groups from every folklore region of Bulgaria, as well as companies from Europe, Asia, and Africa take part in the contest.

For 2 days groups from Bulgaria and abroad perform their unique traditions, masks and costumes in the town square and the streets of Pernik. Visiting groups from Europe and the rest of the world will present a colorful multitude of customs, songs and dances.

The participants and the audience can interact freely along the parade routes and on the improvised stages arranged throughout the town. The festival is accompanied by series of events – plays, demonstrations, shows and bazaars.
